Good News: Massachusetts
Legislature Passes Dissection Choice
On
The Massachusetts Senate has passed legislation to allow students with ethical
or religious objections to dissecting on animals to be provided with alternatives.
The bill passed by a vote of 35-3. The bill had failed for several years, but
thanks to all those who contacted their legislators on this issue, it has been
sent to the Governor for his signature. Please don't contact the Governor at this
time.
Only a dozen states allow students to opt out of experimenting
or dissecting on animals. Ask your legislators to pass such a law in your state!
And if you or your children are required to dissect animals, don't simply give
in. Contact an animal protection organization like The
Humane Society of the US or In Defense of Animals
for help.
Massachusetts residents should keep up pressure
on the legislature by protecting the state's ban on cruel leg-hold traps. Click
