Assistant to the Executive Director

Jewish Vegetarians of North America – an international nonprofit organization devoted to vegan advocacy in the continent’s Jewish community – is seeking an Assistant to the Executive Director to support the organization’s growth.

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, this full-time, contract position provides administrative support. Performs duties such as financial record keeping; coordination of meetings, conferences, and travel; obtaining supplies; coordinating direct mailings; assisting with social media and other advocacy platforms; and working on special projects. Deals with a diverse group of stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload.

Essential Functions

  • Schedules and organizes complex activities such as meetings, appointments, travel and conferences for the Executive Director.
  • Performs desktop publishing.
  • Establishes, develops, maintains and updates the electronic filing systems for the Executive Director. Retrieves information from files when needed.
  • Organizes and prioritizes large volumes of information and calls.
  • Writes and designs some Website and social-media content.
  • Mails letters, brochures and DVDs and conducts mass, direct mailings.
  • Maintains and augments the organization’s database, including financial records.
  • Works independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects. Acts as project manager for special projects, at the request of the Executive Director, which may include: planning and coordinating multiple presentations, disseminating information, coordinating direct mailings, managing one or more social-media accounts, creating brochures and other materials.
  • Represents the organization in written and oral communication with Board members, other JVNA members, prospective members, representatives of external organizations, and vendors.

Skills and Attributes

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Access.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Passion for vegan advocacy.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Previous administrative and program experience preferred.

Salary and Benefits

  • ​35-40 hours a week.
  • Starting wage is $10 to $13.25 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
  • Contract position.
  • Potential for promotion, based on performance and organizational growth.

Location

  • Works remotely.
  • Residence in Southwestern Pennsylvania preferred, but not required.
