Pigs in Maryland Need Your Help!
Your
help is needed to pass Maryland legislation banning cruel gestation crates for
pregnant pigs! Sows spend most of their lives in these crates too small even to
turn around in. The intense confinement causes tremendous frustration and psychological
suffering to these intelligent animals.
Florida just banned
this cruelty by popular vote, the first law restricting the inhumane confinement
of farm animals in the nation. Building on this momentum, Senator Sharon Grosfeld
has introduced S.B. 417 to ban their use in Maryland. Prohibiting gestation crates
will not only help the welfare of Maryland pigs, but will also keep the massive
environmental pollution caused by the factory farms that use them out of the state.
If
you live in Maryland, please contact your state (not federal) Senator and ask
them to "Please support S.B. 417 to prohibit the cruel confinement of pregnant
pigs." Please tell everyone you know in Maryland to do so as well. This could
be a watershed for similar progress around the country. To find out who your legislators
are and how to reach them, look them up on the
Maryland legislature's website, or just ask us at [email protected].

this bill in the next two weeks. Find their contact info here.
