Help Veal Calves in Illinois
Your Help Needed!

A bill has been introduced in Illinois to prohibit the cruel treatment of calves to produce veal. In particular, S.B. 1043 would require that veal calves be given enough room to turn around freely and lie down comfortably, and be given a diet sufficient in iron and fiber to prevent anemia and damage to their rumen. Calves raised for veal are commonly kept in crates so small the can hardly move to keep their muscles tender, and are fed nutritionally deficient diets to keep their flesh pink, causing great suffering to these baby cows. Veal crates have been banned in other countries, but are still perfectly legal in the United States.

If you live in Illinois, please contact your Illinois state legislators TODAY and urge them to "Please support S.B. 1948 to protect calves raised for veal." Let them know that these cruel practices have already been banned in other countries, and that cruelty to animals should be unacceptable anywhere. You can look up your legislators and how to contact her or him at Congress.org, or ask us a [email protected].
