Stop the Overuse of Antibiotics on Factory Farms
Factory
farms routinely mix antibiotics into the feed of pigs, cows, chickens, and turkeys
to speed growth and prevent disease in their unsanitary, overcrowded, and stressful
warehouses. Such nontherapeutic use in healthy farm animals accounts
for an estimated 70% of all antibiotics used in this country.
This endangers
people's lives: Overuse of antibiotics is causing bacterial resistance to the
drugs, so that antibiotics urgently needed to treat sick people no longer work.
This also hurts animals: massive amounts of antibiotics are used to sustain terribly
inhumane conditions.
Bipartisan bills have been introduced
in the U.S. House and Senate to phase out the routine feeding of antibiotics to
healthy farm animals within two years. Please ask your two Senators to "Please
cosponsor S. 1460" and ask your Representative to "Please cosponsor
H.R. 2932." Click here to find out who your
Senators are and how to contact them. To find your Representative, visit Congress.org
