Require Humane Slaughter for Poultry

The Humane Society of the United States is leading a campaign to include birds under the Humane Slaughter Act. Please sign their petition.

The Humane Methods of Slaughter Act regulates the killing of animals for food. However, birds are excluded from the Act. As a result, chickens, turkeys, and other poultry suffer prolonged deaths after their throat is cut which still conscious, and are often scalded to death when dropped into tanks of scalding water for feather removal. There is not justification for requiring humane slaughter for cows and pigs but not for birds.

The Humane Methods of Slaughter Act permits slaughtering of animals according to Jewish law.
