Say No To Mandatory Trapping in Illinois

Illinois legislators have passed legislation to mandate trapping and hunting on public lands—including use of the notorious steel-jawed leghold trap—and only the Governor can stop it from becoming law. He urgently needs to hear from you!

If you live in Illinois, please contact Governor Rod Blagojevich and ask him to “Please veto S.B. 2156.” Let him know that public lands should be available for all residents, not just those looking for an opportunity to kill animals. Remember to include your name and complete mailing address, as all responses will be sent to you by postal mail.

S.B. 2156, sponsored by Sen. John O. Jones and entitled the "Illinois Hunting Heritage Protection Act," prohibits a net loss of area on which hunting or trapping is permitted, making it impossible to restrict the use of cruel traps on public land. Leghold traps have already been banned in more than 80 countries, including Israel, and several U.S. states. Judaism opposes hunting and trapping for sport and the use of the cruel leghold trap.
